7 Handtools for Easy Woodworking Projects
As a woodworker there will be so many tools that you will need as you start different jobs but there are some very basic tools you need to get started on anything.
- Claw Hammer- the claw hammer is probably the most used tool any woodworker has in his tool belt. Claw hammers come in various sizes and weights. I suggest you buy whatever one you feel the most comfortable using.
- 25′ measuring tape- the tape measure is another very important tool. Without it you would never be able to build anything square or true. If you have problems reading a standard tape measure there are ones you can buy that have the increments written right on the tape measure.
- Screwdrivers- I am sure the almost everyone has used a screwdriver at some point in their life time. they come in different sizes and types. I personally like to keep #1, #2, #3 Robertson(square head), Phillips(plus sign head), and flat head screwdrivers around me at all times.
- Level- the level will help you make sure that everything you build is true and square. I personally like to make sure that i have 3 different levels around at all times A 5 foot level, a 3 foot level, and a small torpedo level. That way you have a level for any job you come across
- Block Plane- a block plane is used to remove small thin pieces of wood form the rough edges.. This is an absolute must for nicely finished woodworking projects. It will help make your project look perfect every time.
- Chisels- The Chisel is another essential woodworking tool. A finely sharpened chisel is perfect for cleaning out waste from joints and mortises. I like to keep one each of 1/4″, 1/2″, 3/4″ and 1″ width bevel-edged chisels within easy reach.
- 6″ Layout square- A Layout Square is an invaluable woodworking tool. Not only is it probably the quickest and easiest tool for marking a square line for an end cut, but can be used to quickly mark any angle up to 45-degrees or measure up to six inches. I keep one in my back pocket or nail pouch when I’m in the shop.
With these 7 tools you will be ready to start taking on any Woodworking Project you want to. The next thing you need to have are the right plans to start your woodworking project.
