An Overall Introduction To Woodworking -The Best Beginning When Building A Shed   by Julian Anthony

One of the many reasons that I wrote this article was that documenting what I’m doing helps me to become a better writer. Also if sharing my experiences helps anyone out; even just one or two people, then shucks chucks more than happy to help.

Beginnings are often the easy part for some, while for others (myself included)it is the hardest part of any job. My problems have always been “Where To Begin”?

So this article is to help you with how to begin building a shed from the moment you decide to commit to the task. Any true do-it-yourself project can bring you at odds with yourself or help you to triumph over the matter around you.

Either way you will want to start everything off on the right foot.

When my first attempt at learning to ‘do-it-yourself’ woodworking, I was overwhelmed with possibilities. Inevitably the question arose, “How To Begin Building A Shed”. This is a very important question and one that cannot be easily overlooked. Once you set your mind to the task where to begin becomes elemental.

The first thing you must decide on is what kind of shed you intend to build. There are so many kinds of wooden structures that can be characterized easily as “a shed.” Here are just a few of them.

The list is almost endless. As you can imagine it goes on and on. There are as many different kinds of sheds as there are uses for storage and then some.

In fact the last two are examples of the many different designs of sheds. While some are meant for housing different types of tools or things related to something specific to your needs.

The next thing you must decide is where you plan to build it. Pretty simple stuff that can be ascertained by your landscaping. So then once you have decided what the shed is going to be predominantly used for the most important decision comes into play.

Woodworking plans, should you design them yourself or purchase ready-made woodworking plans?

You know the old saying “You Get What You Pay For?” Well, it could not be more true to this point. Through experience, it is strongly recommended to purchase reliable plans that have already been known to work. They are very easily followed and you can make alterations to fit your needs others are known simply for the way they look.

In my youth I used to think that a plan was just a list of things that will never happen. Since then I have grown and learned to know the difference.

Having a good, sound plan is the first stage of how to begin building anything at all, let alone something as simple as a shed. It will save you time, money, headaches and many decisions that you are not yet aware of. It will also make the entire experience a whole lot more enjoyable.

When you have made your choices to those decisions and have wood-building plans ready, it is time to “BEGIN!” The beginning of the shed building experience is like anything else. It starts with The Foundation. There are a few options here.

The Foundation of your project is obviously very important. You will need to make certain that the foundation is absolutely level and solid.

One option that many take, is to prepare a concrete slab to put your wooden structure directly on the ground. Another option is to dig the foundation and fill it with gravel.

Many people who build sheds use cement blocks on each corner and in the center all depending on the size of your shed. Using concrete blocks is an option but it is not necessarily my favorite.

The next step is going to be to start framing your shed. Framing is an important step. As are all of them. This article has already ran longer than I had anticipated.

So keeping that in mind and also not going too far off the purpose of this article, we will stop for now. It is only dealing with how to begin to build a shed and this should get you started.

Hopefully this will build your interest enough to get you to “Begin”.
Woodworking is an addiction, all be it a positive one and an adventure for the soul. So make no bones about it, just roll up your sleeves and get it, or a (get ‘er) done!
